Senior Parmacy Program not new, but improved

Massachusetts has the right to be proud of the improvements it has made to the Senior Pharmacy Program. Individuals with moderate incomes are now eligible to apply for benefits of $1250 per year, per individual for these medication benefits. In addition, persons under the age of 65 who are disabled may also be eligible for benefits under the Senior Pharmacy Program.

Of greater significance, however, is the new Pharmacy Plus Program. This program provides an unlimited prescription benefit for elders and younger people with disabilities who have high prescription costs in relation to their incomes. The income guidelines for this program are a gross annual household income less than $41,220 (individual) or $55,320 (two-person household).

If a person is spending 10% of their gross monthly household income on prescription drugs in three of the last six months prior to submitting the application and if their prescription drug costs will exceed 5% of their gross quarterly household income, these persons should inquire about this new program.

This program will benefit those persons who have exhausted all other prescription benefits, including the Senior Pharmacy Program benefit. For more information about either program call Elder Services at 499-0524 or 1-800-544-5242 or 1-800-243-4636.
