Fairview Commons responds to community need with Adult Day Health Program

Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, located at 151 Christian Hill Road, has responded to the needs of Southern Berkshire County elders, and is opening an Adult Day Health Program, based at the nursing center, which will accommodate up to 18 people.

Several months ago, Catherine May, Executive Director of Elder Services of Berkshire County, expressed her concerns to Berkshire Healthcare Systems that Great Barrington Healthcare, a 96 bed nursing home in Great Barrington, would be closing their Adult Day Health Program. Catherine stated that, "The immediate and positive response from William Jones, Senior Vice President of Berkshire Healthcare Systems, to work to fulfill this gap in community services for Southern Berkshire County elders, was most reassuring and gratifying. Berkshire Healthcare Systems has a strong commitment to the community, and I knew they would respond to the need."

Without local Adult Day Health, residents of Southern Berkshire County would be faced with up to an hour’s drive to Pittsfield, each way, to continue with the program, or else not participate at all. Fairview Commons immediately responded to this gap in community services.

Fairview Commons has made renovations to accommodate the program that will include a function room, activity programming, social services, nursing supervision as well as lunch, served in the dining room.

William Stafford, Administrator at Fairview Commons, states "The staff at Fairview Commons is very excited about this new opportunity to meet the needs of Southern Berkshire County elders by supporting this important program."

The program opened with great success on Monday, March 4, 2002. William Stafford encourages community members to drop by for a tour, or call for information to enroll in this dynamic program. Space is limited, so please call Fairview Commons for more details at 413-528-4560.

Fairview Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is part of Berkshire Healthcare Systems. Berkshire Healthcare Systems owns and operates 15 nursing facilities in Massachusetts, two in Ohio, one in Pennsylvania, and the new Nursing Care Center for Kimball Farms, opening April, 2002, in Lenox.
