Help available for voters to make their voices heard

Seniors who would like the opportunity to vote in the November 2 election, but who may not be able to vote at the polls due to a physical disability could consider voting by Absentee Ballot.  The first step is to  make sure you are registered to vote; the deadline for registration to vote in the presidential election is Wednesday, October 13. The next step is to request an Absentee Ballot application from the city or town clerk where you live. An individual may receive assistance in filling out the brief application if they need it due to such impairments as blindness or a physical disability.

After mailing the application to the city or town clerk, the official Absentee Ballot will be mailed to the voter. The completed ballot is mailed back in the accompanying envelope. Seniors requiring assistance may receive it from anyone of their choice.

Rides to the polls

If you prefer not to use an absentee ballot, ask your local Council on Aging if they are offering rides to the polls. The phone number for each town’s Council on Aging is listed in the white pages of the phonebook under the name of the town or city where the senior lives.

In North Berkshire towns, additional information may be obtained by calling either the COAs or the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition at 413-663-7588.
