Elders today have an increasing range of options open to them in choosing their housing situations. While most people prefer to remain independent in their homes that is not always the safest choice when illness or other physical limitations make caring for oneself or a spouse difficult.
Berkshire County has several alternatives for elder housing and new choices, such as assisted living facilities, are currently being developed.
