Greylock Golf Tournament benefits Meals on Wheels
Elder Services’ Meals on Wheels program received the proceeds of Greylock Federal Credit Union’s 24th annual Bees Prendergast Memorial Golf Tournament held Mon., August 19th at the Country Club of Pittsfield.
Meals on Wheels, a federal and state funded program, delivers hot, nutritious noontime meals to over 750 homebound elders each weekday. Federal funds have remained at the same level in recent years, but state revenues have dropped, and costs for food, preparation, packaging and delivery have continued to climb. Many Meals on Wheels programs nationally have had to institute waiting lists for this essential service; community support through donations and special events will help Elder Services avoid this in the Berkshires.
Haddad Toyota, Hyundai, Buick, Pontiac and Jeep offered a 2002 Pontiac Aztec as the Hole-in-one contest prize. Greens, tees and carts were sponsored by Berkshire businesses, and raffle prizes donated by area merchants.
Tournament Committee members included Elder Services’ Executive Director Catherine R. May, Elder Services staff members Roger Suters, Stephanie Talanian, Jeanne Siegel, and Louisa Weeden, and Board and Board Committee members Timothy Carlo, Terrence Hanlon, Steven Long, Richard Matthews, Alex Seseske and Marilyn Truskowski.
The tournament was open only to Greylock Federal Credit Union members or those wishing to become members.
