Roundtable - key for elder advocacy

By Jeanne B. Siegel, Elder Services Planner

Berkshire County is 943 square miles and is comprised of 30 towns and 2 cities, each of which (with the exception of Hancock) has a Council on Aging. Funded by the local government and the state, each Council strives to meet the various needs of residents age 60 and older in their town. As all Berkshire towns have distinct personalities; each council reflects its unique population.

In order to assist the Councils in our shared mission of helping Berkshire elders achieve the highest possible quality of life, Elder Services is pleased to host the quarterly meetings, known as Roundtables. The next Roundtable, scheduled for September 25, will be chaired by Sandra Lamb, North Adams Council on Aging Director. The goals of the Roundtable are to increase communication between all organizations that serve elders, increase the knowledge of available resources, and to serve as an advocate for elder concerns.

Elder Services, which is centrally located in Pittsfield and serves elders throughout the County, believes that these quarterly forums open the possibilities for joint programming and other creative ventures that will meet the challenges of serving Berkshire elders. The Roundtable is open to interested individuals. For more information please contact Jeanne Siegel at 413-499-0524 or 1-800-544-5242.
