Medications are probably the single most important health care technology for preventing illness, disability, and death in the geriatric population. When used correctly, prescribed medications and those purchased directly by consumers greatly increase the health and independence of older Americans. The right medications, prescribed in appropriate doses for patients can produce medical “miracles.” But when used incorrectly, medications can also cause serious harm in older patients
