SHINE volunteers provide free health insurance information and assistance
On December 4, Elder Services hosted the graduation of six new SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders) counselors.
Graduates include Elder Services' Board Member Mary Washburn and Deborah Frazer, Resident Services Coordinator at the Berkshiretown Apartments in Pittsfield. Graduates from Elder Services include: Elder Intervention Specialist Kate Barber, Information and Referral Specialist Carol Cizek; Case Manager Jennifer Haven, and Sam Lagrotteria, Senior Aide Program Assistant for the Senior Community Services Employment Program, for which Elder Services is the regional sponsor for Berkshire County.
The SHINE program provides objective health insurance information and assistance regarding Medicare, supplemental insurance coverage, public benefits, and prescription discounts.
Counselors meet with Berkshire County residents at Councils on Aging, Elder Services' office at 66 Wendell Avenue in Pittsfield, and at Ecu-Health Care Services in North Adams. Counselors will also make house calls when needed. If you have a question for SHINE, call 499-0524 or 1-800-544-5242.
