Elder Services of Berkshire County is presenting a five-part series on family caregiving in Great Barrington in November. The series, entitled “The Caregivers’ Journey,” will include videos and discussion that look at the progression of emotions involved in the caregiving process. The sessions will be held at Fairview Hospital from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on five successive Monday evenings beginning on
November 1. A light supper will be served from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and the video presentation and discussion will begin at 6 p.m.
Elder Services Caregiver Liaison Bea Cowlin will facilitate the series with Elder Services’ staff Beth Hinkley and Margie Ware.
Each video will spotlight a different aspect of the emotional work that goes into caring for someone with either an acute illness or a long-term progressive diagnosis. The titles include: “The Journey Begins,” “The Toll,” “Surviving, Healing,” and “Quiet Triumphs.” The series is designed to allow caregivers to explore with others the challenges, rewards, and demands of caregiving so that the caregiver can be aware of the need to take care of him or herself while proceeding through the journey.
There is no charge and all family caregivers are welcome to attend. The series will be presented again in March in Pittsfield and in May in North County. For further information, contact Bea Cowlin at 413-499-0524 or 800-544-5242. She can also be reached by email at caregiver@esbci.org.
