By Louisa Weeden
For over 11 years, the Earth Angels have been singing and dancing their way into the hearts of Berkshire residents with their energetic and heart-felt performances. All proceeds from ticket sales and raffles have gone directly to local non-profits and charities, to help those in need.
The impressive total of those donations over the past 11 years has surpassed over $750,000. The Earth Angels have been tremendous supporters of Elder Services, providing the agency a grand total of $59,000.
The Earth Angels recently held their appreciation night at The West Stockbridge Sportsmen’s Club. This night was attended by the Earth Angels and the representatives of the charities and non-profits that were recipients of the donations that were made by their 4 weekends of performances in March, 2007. Among the organizations receiving donations were D.A.R.E., Hospice Care of the Berkshires, Elder Services of Berkshire County, Southern Berkshire Elderly Transportation, and the Community Health Program.
That evening over $68,000 was presented to the charities from this year’s shows.
Also attending the event were Senator Ben Downing and State Representative William “Smitty” Pignatelli. Senator Downing presented the Earth Angels with a citation from the Senate, and Rep. Pignatelli awarded a citation on behalf of the House of Representatives. These citations were for outstanding community service in philanthropy for the past 11 years.
There are still some performances to go before the Earth Angels formally disband as a philanthropic performance group. They will do their annual gala in September to support the Stockbridge Theatre Festival, with performances on September 14th and 15th, and will give two performances at Pittsfield’s Colonial Theatre on November 9th and 10th. Open seating ticket prices range from $20 to $25, and are on sale now. For tickets, call the Earth Angels Box office at 274-6098 or visit the Earth Angel website at www.theearthangels.org.
While many will miss the loss of this wonderful local phenomenon, as directed by Jim Morrison, most understand that the members, whose dedicated volunteerism and steadfast commitment kept producing a fresh new musical production each year for 11 years, deserve a rest and the opportunity to explore other uses for their free time.
Elder Services wishes all Earth Angels cast and crew members the best, and thanks them for all they have given to our community.
Thank you, Earth Angels!
