Triad picnic, fun served up with important information

By Lisa Lungo, Elder Services Client Services Director

An estimated 180 seniors from 14 Berkshire communities attended the Fifth Annual Berkshire County Triad Picnic and Health & Safety Fair on July 20, 2005 at the Dalton VFW Pavilion.   Organizations, including Elder Services, the American Red Cross, the district attorney’s office, AARP, and local visiting nurse associations, provided information to Berkshire County seniors. Workshops spotlighted topics such as fall prevention, carbon monoxide dangers, and safe driving for seniors.

Triad is a community partnership between seniors, senior service agencies, law enforcement, and public safety providers. Triad’s goals include reducing criminal activity targeted at seniors and enhancing the delivery of law enforcement and public safety services to senior citizens.  Members of Triad comprise representatives from the Berkshire County sheriff’s office, the district attorney’s office, local police and fire departments, local Councils on Aging and members of the senior community.  This year’s event was sponsored by the Dalton Triad, the Dalton Police Department, the Berkshire County sheriff’s office, the Dalton Council on Aging, the Berkshire County district attorney’s office, and the Hinsdale/Washington Triad.
