Berkshire Memory Walk on the move to end Alzheimer’s

Be a part of the cure on September 15 by joining friends and neighbors in the Berkshire Memory Walk.  Taking place from 9 a.m. to noon along the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail in Cheshire, this is the signature fund-raising event of the Alzheimer’s Association. Registration and festivities start under the tent on the Farnams Road causeway, overlooking scenic Cheshire Lake.

Join Mayor James M. Ruberto and his wife and Ellen Ruberto as they return for the fourth year as Honorary Chairs. They will walk in tribute to Mayor Ruberto’s mother, Edith, who has Alzheimer’s.

Individuals and teams are invited to participate in this non-competitive event to help raise funds for the many services provided by the Alzheimer’s Association.  In Berkshire County alone over 4,000 people and their families are coping with Alzheimer’s. The Alzheimer’s Association provides support, training, and confidential, personalized assistance for individuals and families who are facing the difficult decisions and challenges associated with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.  Working toward their vision of “a world without Alzheimer’s,” the Association is the largest private investor in innovative research related to Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

WBRK will broadcast live from the event starting at 8 a.m. Performing on the lakeside stage will be singer-songwriter Bernice Lewis. Bowey the Clown will entertain children with his antics. A picnic lunch, courtesy of Applebee’s, and pizza by Papa Joe’s for all registered participants will follow the walk. Walkers are invited to bring photos, poems, or remembrances to post on the Memory Board to honor those for whom they are walking.

A prize calendar featuring more than 30 gift certificates donated by Berkshire businesses is available for sale now through the day of the Walk. Each day in the month of October a new winner will be chosen. All money raised from calendar sales goes toward this year’s Walk goal. In the case of bad weather, the Walk will take place at the Berkshire Mall.

Walk Co-Chairs are Bill Kittler, administrator of Hillcrest Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Michael Kachadoorian, Vice President of Marketing of Berkshire Health Systems.
