Great Barrington Garden club members recently gathered at the home of Christine Ward to create fresh cut flower arrangements for Great Barrington residents who receive Meals on Wheels and those who attend the daily lunch program at the town’s Claire Teague Senior Center.
The arrangements, in hand decorated containers, were delivered the next day to Berkshire South Regional Community Center where Meals on Wheels drivers gather to assemble meals for home delivery. In addition, 32 arrangements were delivered to the senior center so that each diner could be presented with an individual arrangement.
The feedback from those at the Teague center was immediate. Combined with the favorite summertime cold plate menu of egg salad, macaroni salad, carrot raisin salad, bread, pineapple and dessert all the attendees graciously expressed their appreciation. Elder Services' Nutrition Department also received many thank you calls from those who receive Meals on Wheels at home. One woman, who was recovering from surgery and feeling down, said when the Meals on Wheels driver arrived with her mid-day meal and presented her with a gorgeous fresh flower arrangement, her spirits were instantly lifted.
