December 2004 Monthly News

  December 1, 2004

Dear Reader:

Many Berkshire elders, who want to remain independently in their own homes, need help to do so. Activities that are often taken for granted, such as bathing, dressing, cooking, cleaning our homes, or remembering to take medications, can seem like insurmountable obstacles to someone who is having trouble seeing, using his or her hands, or walking.

Many times, when these limitations begin to manifest themselves, it may seem as though the next step is a nursing home. Nursing home placement is necessary for some, but for others, having assistance for a few hours a day is all that is needed to maintain independence.  When in-home services are needed, an Elder Services’ Case Manager meets with elders to discuss their needs, presents available options to increase their quality of life, and arranges services designed to help with the challenges that they face each day. Elder Services brings help to those who need it, allowing elders to remain safely and happily at home.

Elder Services’ mission is to provide Berkshire elders the opportunity to live with dignity, independence, and self-determination, and to achieve the highest possible quality of life. In June, as part of our Elder Independence Appeal, Elder Services asked for your support by enclosing a donation envelope in the Berkshire Senior.   Now, as winter rolls in, we’ve again enclosed an envelope in this issue so you have another opportunity to help Berkshire elders.

If it is possible for you to give this year, won’t you send your tax-deductible donation to Elder Services so that we can continue to help our older neighbors live in safety and comfort in their own homes, where they want to be?

On behalf of those we serve, thank you for your support.

  Sincerely yours,
