Volunteers to be recognized at Elder Services dinner

By Angela Fields

On Wednesday April 23, Elder Services will host its Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Pittsfield in honor of the more than 400 individuals who volunteer through Elder Services.

This year’s theme, “Volunteers give the Greatest Gift,” accurately describes these special individuals who provide essential services to Berkshire County seniors. Volunteers are: shoppers; companions; library aides; ombudsman; Money Management volunteers; SHINE (Serving Health Information Needs of Seniors) counselors; nutrition volunteers who help package, serve and deliver meals; Berkshire Senior TV crew who help transmit information via public access television; and those who transport seniors to medical appointments. In addition, Elder Services clerical volunteers and RSVP volunteers assist with mailings and office work.

Entertainment will be provided by the Eagles Stage Band for everyone’s listening and dancing pleasure. All volunteers will receive Certificates of Appreciation.  Elder Services Executive Director Robert P. Dean will be the keynote speaker.

Elder Services is very appreciative of the many hours, dedication, and commitment volunteers devote to helping Berkshire County seniors.

Thanks to their efforts many seniors are able to remain independent, live with dignity, and enjoy the highest possible quality of life. It is fitting that we take the opportunity to express our appreciation during National Volunteer Week and to recognize each and every volunteer.

Elder Services Supervisor of Volunteer Services Angela Fields recruits, trains, and oversees volunteer activities including transportation, shopping, and companionship.
