Hardman Fund provides grant for Elder Services’ Meals on Wheels

Federal funding for Meals on Wheels has remained steady for the past 11 years, while costs have continued to grow each year. The program has been generating a significant deficit, which Elder Services addresses in part through community fund-raising.

The grant will help ensure that elders in the towns of North Adams, Clarksburg and Florida, who need home delivered meals will continue to receive them.  Over the past 12 months, in these three towns alone, Elder Services delivered 38,100 Meals on Wheels to elders who might not otherwise have had a hot meal or a friendly visit.

Elder Services Meals on Wheels program is essential to its mission: to provide Berkshire elders the opportunity to live with dignity, independence and self-determination, and to achieve the highest possible quality of life. Elder Services is holding a raffle until August 19, to benefit its Meals on Wheels program. The drawing is slated for August 31. There are 29 prizes, including a Spa Day at Canyon Ranch and two tickets to see the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Raffle tickets can be purchased from Elder Services at 66 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield, or call 413-499-0524 or 1-800-544-5242 for ticket sales dates and locations. All proceeds go to Elder Services’ Meals on Wheels program.
