Elder Services awards grants to Berkshire elders

Elder Services has awarded the following grants to 10 Berkshire County agencies to provide services and support to elders age 60 and over and their caregivers. With funding through Title III of the Older Americans Act, the grants began on October 1, 2005 and will conclude on September 30, 2006.

Western MA Legal Services: Elder Law Project provides elders with representation, advice, and other direct legal services not requiring litigation.

Brien Center: Chore Services such as oven and refrigerator cleaning, windows and kitchen cabinets washed, A/C installation/removal, and limited yard work.

Berkshire Community Action Council: Medical Reassurance Service

Berkshire Alzheimer’s Partnership: Caregiver Resource Expo in the spring of 2006

Parker-O’Brien & Associates: The Transition Program to provide support/training to caregivers/ elders with high-risk needs transitioning home in Northern Berkshire County.

Gabriele Elston Ferry G.N.P.: In-Home Assessments

Sandra Doppel, R.N.: Skilled In-Home Foot Care to elders in Berkshire County

Richmond Council on Aging: Skilled In-Home Foot Care provided by an R.N. to elders in Richmond.

United Cerebral Palsy Caregiver Support: Assistive Technology supports caregivers by providing assistive devices to elders that promotes independence. (Large button remotes, programmable alarms for medication reminders, phones for hearing impaired.

Alzheimer’s Association: Caregiver Education Program on Alzheimer’s disease with focuson care at home.
