In honor of Residents’ Rights Week, Elder Services sponsored a luncheon for representatives of Berkshire County Nursing Home Residents Councils on Tues., October 5. Some 44 attendees participated in this event held at the at the Ralph J. Froio Senior Center in Pittsfield. The guests enjoyed a turkey dinner served by staff from both Elder Services and the senior center. Entertainment was provided by The Rhythm Belles, a senior line dancing group, and Vivian Rodowicz on the piano. The Supportive Day Program at the senior center created pumpkins for each resident to take home with them.
Residents’ Rights Week is in national recognition of all nursing home residents. It is a time set aside to acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices many long-term care residents have made to better our community and our lives, and to affirm their rights as American citizens to the same freedoms they enjoyed before entering their home. Elder Services’ ombudsman volunteers visit facilities on a weekly basis as part of their mission to receive, investigate, and attempt to resolve complaints made by or on behalf of residents of nursing and rest homes; protect residents’ rights; provide information, and advocate for positive change in the Long Term Care system.
